PAVERS

Interlocking paving stones are a specialty at SHP Landscaping & Excavation. Compared to concrete, interlocking pavers offer greater durability and longevity. A proper interlocking paving system includes a thick, compacted class 5 gravel base. When correctly installed, an interlocking paving system for your driveway or walkway can last for decades, far outlasting concrete.

Interlocking pavers not only provide a luxurious appearance but are also easily repaired if necessary. The complete paving system can be up to 10 to 12 inches thick, and sometimes a sub-base is also added. Excavation is often required to remove soft soils and install the gravel base, ensuring the proper finished elevation. When you choose us to install an interlocking paving system, we offer a variety of pavers and patterns to best complement your home.

FAQs

Will weeds grow in between the joints?

With proper installation, weeds do not grow between the paver joints. A foundation of 6-8 inches of compacted gravel beneath the pavers prevents weeds from growing underneath.

Why do my neighbours paving stones look like they are uneven and have weeds growing in the joint areas?

When paving stones are installed without the necessary compacted gravel base, the pavers will sink and become uneven over time. In most instances of sinking and uneven pavers, the issue is due to the absence or insufficiency of a gravel base. Some contractors may entirely skip this crucial step. Installing the correct thickness of the gravel base is essential for the proper functioning of the interlocking paving system.

Other key components of the interlocking paving system include compaction, grading, tight interlocking, joint sand, and edging restraints. If any of these critical elements are neglected, the interlocking pavers will not function correctly. A reliable interlocking paver contractor should provide a detailed quotation specifying the thickness of the materials to be used.
